Intro to ICD-10 Coding

< iframe width= "425" elevation=" 355" src =" https://www.youtube.com/embed/NNbTcMwrop8?rel=0" frameborder =" 0" allowfullscreen > This animated video clip from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Provider (CMS) clarifies the benefits of ICD-10 medical codes. Healthcare companies will certainly begin making use of ICD-10 rather than ICD-9 codes on October 1, 2015.

ICD-10 broadens on ICD-9 codes to mirror developments in medication. So ICD-10 allows doctors to record even more details regarding their clients’ health and wellness conditions and hospital treatments. These details cause a far better document of an individual’s background. This in turn can result in much better care for clients across different providers and over time.

  1. I am so glad ICD-10 is coming out. I had no way to know which arm of my patient was broken until an ICD code told me!

  2. Does that mean if I refer a patient to another phsycian I don't have to send their records I can just send them their ICD-10 code?

  4. The people entering the "data" know that when a $ is added to the data, that it becomes financial data, not medical data. So, anyone who would ultimately use data derived from ICD-10 will know that that it is not likely to be accurate if used as medical data.

  5. It would be nice to have a website that had a place where you can post for example what you have and it will tell you what the ICD 10 Code is for it or the list of ICD 10 Codes are for what you have?
For example, I in about's 2002 was diagnosed with a (Spatial Diffused Global Weakness). The site would allow me or a person to type this in and then allow me / a person to list different symptoms and how the different symptoms effect me / a person. It then would have a list of things where you put a check mark beside different words that would apply or are as close t what you described. Does the symptom always, Some of the time, Never etc effect you. This would be set up for each symptom you list for what you type. There would be a place where you type what you think you have or know you have. Below that you will have a button that would say (Add Symptom Description). You can keep adding more of these until you are done. After that you hit the continue button to search for another one and do the same process over again. When you are done with all of these you can ether Print, Email these results to your doctor or save them on your computer. It will provide them with the codes and full description so your doctor can help you and they will have a guide to helping you faster. The site needs to have a way for a person to have a free account that they can keep all of their information safe and secure and if something needs to be updated it can be up dated.
This is just one of the things that I have.

  6. I'm in school for medical billing and coding. Trying to re-do my project that I didn't do well on because I wasn't sent the correct book and I have until the 23rd to correct it. I have sickle cell disease and started in feb 2020 so I should've been done by 2021 but my health started acting up so I was in & out of the hospital. I paid for 2 extensions and when it came to a 3rd I was given the runaround & being told I couldn't get one plus that if I didn't complete everything by August 10th I'd have to start the entire program over. At that time I only had 2 courses left. It increased my stress level which of course triggered me into a sickle cell crisis. I've been in excruciating pain for 2 weeks and since they had put in my head that I couldn't get the extension I knew I couldn't go to the hospital because then I wouldn't really be able to work on assignments, exams, or my project. I'll admit I rushed the project due to that. All of my grades are great despite being in so much pain. On the 4th I got in contact with my school & was given a 3 month extension so now I have until Nov 10th which is great. God is so good. I plan to finish before that date but it took a huge burden off of me.

Unfortunately since I have the 2020 books I'm not sure how to fix my project. The books are updates annually so there have been a lot of additions, deletions, and revisions.

I'll contact them again tomorrow about how I can correct my project and what I need to do my upcoming projects.

I want to make sure I'm grasping the material.

Is it really that hard to get a position in this field w/o experience? Is school seen as experience? I know how to do everything from the front office, coding & billing etc.
