Cellulite or Lipedema? Get the Right Diagnosis

< iframe size =" 425" elevation =" 355" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0Lz6gyqqMHc?rel=0" frameborder =" 0" allowfullscreen > Weekly, I satisfy females worried regarding the appearance of bumpy, rough, “cottage cheese” skin on their legs– typically persuaded it’s simply persistent cellulite that no diet or exercise can repair. While cellulite is a common cosmetic concern, there’s one more medical problem frequently misdiagnosed as cellulite: lipedema.
In this video, I describe the essential distinctions between lipedema and cellulite. Cellulite is safe and created by just how fat engages with the connective tissue under your skin, causing that lumpy, orange peel appearance. However, there’s no permanent medical repair for the collagen network behind cellulite, and therapies like Avilae or Subcision mainly target deep, separated dimples– not the larger, lumpy look. Even traditional liposuction can often make cellulite worse.
Lipedema, by contrast, is a chronic, typically agonizing fat problem noted by balanced fat build-up on the legs (and in some cases arms), while sparing the feet and hands. Key indications of lipedema consist of pain, constant wounding without clear cause, a column-like leg form, and stronger lumps under the skin. It’s not brought on by weight problems and can affect ladies of all dimensions. Despite what lots of have listened to, lipedema frequently doesn’t reply to weight loss and is not just “negative cellulite.”
If you’ve attempted every little thing for stubborn cellulite and are still handling swelling, tenderness, and simple discoloration, I encourage you to read more regarding lipedema. The appropriate diagnosis can be life-altering– and there are reliable therapies, consisting of tumescent liposuction, that might help enhance discomfort, movement, and self-confidence.

  1. A friend of mine has has lipodemia for many years. About just over a month ago she started to take a tablespoon of apple cider vinigar in some water before every meal to combat heartburn. After a month she realized that she was loosing weight and especially noticible on the calves, where she noticed how they had started to reduce in size. In 1 month she came down one Jean size.

  2. So would you be estrogen dominant? What hormones make the condition worse? And what can you recommend hormone wise that would help?

  3. Thank you Dr. for this great explanation of the differences between these two conditions. I’m just now learning of lipodemia and happy to determine by your thorough description of both, that I’m dealing with generic cellulite.😢

  4. I don't know if it's related, but I was diagnosed with Lipedema after I had my Mirena IUD removed.
Long story short, I had four liposuction surgeries (legs AND arms) and even though I was in stage 1, it still left me with loose skin that looks like cellulite now.
I live in Germany and at the time (four years ago) the surgeries weren't covered by the health insurance unless you were in stage 3. I think this has changed now.
If anybody has questions, feel free to ask me.

  5. So which side of the photo is the celulite nd which the lipodema side? (Talking bout the title picture)

  6. Is it always progressive? I’ve had hard lumps since I was a young teenager but they haven’t changed I’m 47

  7. Does CLA supplement help to remove the subcutaneous fat? Could it be helpful for lipedema? Thanks

  8. If this is not painful or bruising at all and go away completely when lying down or flexing the legs, ans just present when standing(and even then go away with lifting the skin of inner thighs) is it cellulite or lipodema? Can it be early stages?
