If you do eat carbs, does it help to have fiber and fat or protein with it?
59yo and tho I don't have a lot of wt to take off, gut issues and this "360 degree pooch" has shown up.
3 weeks solid of intermittent fasting 16:8 and barely a budge.
I haven't been counting carbs, tho watching them during this IF.
My work is physically demanding so I'm apprehensive lowering carbs.
Doc, how do I keep energy up on low carb?
Finally! Someone actually explaining things. Thank you!
how about ezekiel bread? There is no flour in it. Just curious. Thank you
51 was nothing, During menopause, I could still have a six pack. It's post menopause that is the b***.
Thanks Dr B. Ur vids are life changing. I am 57 years old female with diabetes and osteoarthritis. I recently changed my diet to reverse these diseases and lose weight. I eat a whole lemon every morning. I mix the juice with olive oil, honey and warm water to replace my morning coffee. I then eat remains.
This drink along with warm water keeps me full until about 3pm when I eat a large salad with eggs or fish or lambs meat or organ meat eg kidneys. My final meal is a small amount of steamed vegetables and kiwifruit or red apples for dessert. I am so surprised to see how quickly I am losing the excess weight. Eating fat really do help you to lose fat
I’ve been if for almost a year. Lost only 10 pounds. Last week I did a total of 135 hours fasting inc a 45 hour fast. Weight loss – zero. I’m about to throw the towel in on this
1. How fat storage changes during menopause:
– increase in belly fat
– sugar cravings
2. Reasons:
– ESTROGEN: as ovaries make less estrogen –> fat gets redistributed to the abdominal area (slowdown of resting metabolic rate)
– fat cells are a secondary estrogen producer: possibly the body creating more fat is a way of it regains some lost estrogen
– INSULIN is a fat storing hormone (with age the cells become more INSULIN RESISTANT=they resist insulin's attempts to drop off nutrients).
3. INSULIN RESISTANCE
Consequences:
– carb cravings (because cells don't take in the energy they need)
– weight gain (your body doesn't respond to the present insulin –> pancreas pumps out more of it–> that encourages fat storage)
Reasons:
– increased belly fat (from menopause)
– poor sleep (from menopause)
– poor diet/lack of exercise/chronic stress (creates belly fat)
Menopause has the potential to create the PERFECT STORM for weight gain.
4. How to get around the changes of fat storage in menopause:
Disrupt this cycle by targeting the things we can control:
– work with the body to use ESTROGEN more efficiently
– lessen the impact of INSULIN RESISTANCE, starting by:
HOW:
– HIGH FAT diet (healthy fats will enable healthy cell membranes to transport hormones trough it)
Will also help with hunger satiety/decreased cravings.
– LOW CARB diet (avoid sugar and refined carbs –> reduces insulin resistance)
– INTERMITTENT FASTING (min a few days in the week). Limiting late night eating will improve your sleep quality. –> more energy –> more active –> more weight loss
With this basics in place you will see a snowball effect in the opposite direction: the body will be more prone to burning instead of storing fat.
HEALTHY fats:
– nuts
– seeds
– avocados
– fatty fish
– high quality meats
UNHEALTHY fats:
– vegetable oils (e.g. soybean) ,present in processed food
Watch her VIDEO on:
– healthy/unhealthy fats
– intermittent fasting in women over 50

– low carb- high fat menus

– discuss with others
What do u know about BHRT (natural
Hormones, not from horses urine doctors RX.). If started gently at perimenopause, the extra fat shouldn’t come on around middle, also less or no collagen loss, perhaps other things. Is it a good possibility? Why mainstream doctors don’t use this is a mystery. Except they are required to RX to benefit big pharma companies?
I’m going threw all this I’m 53 .. NEVER EVER HAD FAT ON MY STOMACH.. Now I got 10 pounds I Cannot get rid of!! It’s very depressing!
I’m Not into Meat so It’s harder! Thank you 😊
I hah my last period at 56. I gained 22 pounds since then.
great video, wonderful content thank you!
I'm 52 years old and I'm on intermitteng fasting and keto diet over year now (I'm fasting for 17-19 hours every day and eating for 5-7 hours every day, keto diet with some carbs from walnuts, almonds, peanuts, lienen and sesame seeds, home made kefir and hard cheese from time to time). I really haven't got any weight, my body looks like in my 20-es. Also, I exercise every second day some hiit workouts (low intensity) with light weights for 20-30 minutes. I have got menstruals still, but every few months. My only problem are the hot flashes all days and nights, so I haven't got long and quality sleep. I don't want to take artificial hormones. Sorry for my bad English, it isn't my native language.
I honestly don’t know where my menopause is!
Just ask any close to 50 year old woman about menopause. They will deny it’s happening and then bite your head clean off your shoulders! Prove me wrong
I’m 48 and in full menopause I’m Vegan , can you help me ?
Are dates okay? I have been eating 2 of them when I have a sweets craving.
Great video! I watched as I wanted to make sure I was on the right track! I started peri-menopause when I turned 45 and full menopause when I turned 51. I am also on hormone replacement therapy. At that time I also quit smoking. I have lost over 100 lbs three times in my life time. Needless to say I was going extremely insulin resistant. I tried eating better but still packed on the weight. I needed to do something. In January 2021 I started intermittent fasting from 7pm to 1pm everyday and weight watchers. I only lost 4 lbs from January 22 to March 7. I was very discouraged and angry with myself. My sister in law told me that day about keto. I tossed all my cereal and in the trash! I have lost 80 lbs since March 7, 2021😊 I still do fasting along with healthy keto. I have 40lbs to go!!! Honestly I believe I will be able to remain low carb and low sugar for life!
My biggest challenge is hunger. I lost 16 kg on strict keto and IF (2/day) so far, but now I need to eat less and reduce fat to loose more and I should work out more. But it's very very cold, so I can't walk as I would like. It's so hard to eat less because I get sooo hungry. I'm 57 and in menopause.
I'm seriously ready to scream. I'm 4 yrs past meno. I did IF 3 yrs ago for a year. It took a YEAR to lose 21 lbs. but I did it! THEN, I just stopped losing. Just stopped. I had another 10lbs to go so I kept at it for another 8 or 9 mos. and nothing happened and felt like maybe my body just couldn't do it anymore. So I still would fast a few days a week. The last 2 years have been evry stressful and exhausting. I have tried all the natural HRT, including ND thyroid to no avail. I just felt worse. I have slowly crept back up to my starting weight, so I started IF again. for the last 5 weeks and I have only gained. I just want to lose a 30 lbs and feel healthy! I don't eat junk or, soda or tons of carbs, I try to exercise because I love fitness but I'm too exhausted. What the heck is wrong with my body??? I have almost no hormones left and everything I try makes me feel horrible! I seriously am at a total loss of what to do.
