As a fellow physician, I think you overstate the risks of Whole 30. The vast majority of W30 participants will be to some degree overweight because of sugar, carbohydrates, and junk food in general. This diet nicely captures the essence of proper eating in a neat 30-day challenge. It's a fun game that people can do together. The fraction of people who do W30 to remedy some medical condition not related to poor eating habits is extremely small, I would guess. Suggesting that people need to consult their doctor before undertaking the single best habit change of their life overly cautious. Common things are common, and junk eating is super duper common. Population-wide, I would bet on the statistics to ensure a healthy overall outcome to this particular diet fad.
Literally what are you suppose to eat. I dont see this as a big helpful to people unless it is used as a true elimination diet while being monitered closely by a physician.
My mom and sister have done it. My mom has been a diabetic for a very long time and had high blood pressure. Her numbers are the best they have ever been. My sister was having pain in her joints. It took them away.
I like to decompress with camomile tea or taking a bath. Highly recommend! And if you get chamomile with lavender or vanilla, no sugar needed.
i feel so bad from the foods I eat that I am willing to do Whole 30. The "fun" foods affect me terribly. I don't do diets. I haven't been on a diet in 30 years. I think you are a a very healthy eater anyways, I am thinking it would not affect you much.
I have tried the Daniel fast, which is similar to Whole30, except you can eat legumes and whole wheat grains but no meat, and it was awesome! I couldn't do Whole30 by itself due to certain vitamin deficiencies, but I am so happy with the Daniel fast. It should be called the Daniel Challenge. Either way, definitely consult a medical professional first!
I did the Whole30 twice. It’s amazing. You do spend a lot of time reading labels, but it’s worth it. A lot of companies are now putting “Whole30 approved” on their labels to make it easier. Also, Thrive Market (online) has a whole line of Whole30 approved foods. When I did it 10 years ago, that wasn’t available.
I lost weight on it, bloating was gone and, most importantly, my mood was amazing. I went through a break up during my first round and didn’t feel sad. It’s amazing what your body and mind will feel like when you cut out processed foods
I am trying to loose weight to manage my blood pressure. I do weigh daily but I understand that weight loss is not linear. I weigh every day first thing in the morning before I eat and a average my last 15 weights. That helps me to see the big picture.
no legumes, no grains, no dairy? what unbelievable nonsense. Yeah I'm sure oatmeal, lentils, and greek yogurt are a big problem……..
I will never do it. Too hard.
Autism is not an illness 😮
please do Mediterranean diet .
I’m starting it because of fibromyalgia symptoms. I’m desperate for relief so I’m starting here . Eventually going to cut out more carbs from this diet
The fact that Dr's have imput on nutrition but don't learn nutrition in Medical school is mindblowing to say the least
Back in the seventies I was keen on improving as a cross-country ski racer. The prevailing advice for physical training back then – Strength training, low- intensity endurance training with particular attention to interval high-intesity training. Advice for diet – Eat a wide variety of lightly processed foods and don't eat too much. Today I think for general well-being and good health the advice for diet continues to hold true.
Personally I'm in it solely for the recipes. Not doing the elimination part.
I think you should have done the whole 30 before you offered your criticism of it. I did the whole 30 and then transitioned into a Paleo diet and after that 30-day period I felt extremely well! I had good energy good mental clarity and less achiness and stiffness in my joints. And the criticisms that you did have sound just like something a western doctor would say, someone who just wants to write a prescription for everything. The whole 30 is not even considered to be a treatment for autism. In the book, they talk about certain traits or characteristics that people have with different disorders and point to a few dietary changes that could help alleviate those challenges. I think the whole 30 and the paleo diet are the best of the mainstream diets or trends.
