  1. Intermittent Fasting, I eat protein & carbs in my eating window, whatever I feel is good for me and hit the gym 4 times a week. I’ve lost 20lbs so far in 3.5 months. The secret for me, I stopped drinking my calories and cut so much sugar out of my diet. I never though of carbs as being my enemy as i still do need them for energy, play hockey 3 times a week also.

  2. Keto, counting calories and the gym did help me lose weight from 200 to 150. But it's a horrible decision when you cant eat anywhere you looking like a idiot when it's a birthday or family get together and your eattinf meat and cheese that you packed 😅

  3. Basically, it is true that you perform better if you eat carbohydrates before exercise, BUT ketones are healthier for the brain and muscles than glucose. With constant activity, such as a marathon, ketosis is extremely beneficial as you can run for longer. In weight training, you can lift heavier weights more often with higher glycogen stores if you are actually in a competition. However, when it comes to just building muscle and strength, in ketosis you can get to muscle failure with fewer reps and sets, building more muscle mass in less time. However, athletes in ketosis often don't enjoy it because they can't do as much as with carbohydrates. You have to set priorities.

  4. Isn't the primary source of energy in high intensity workouts glycogen tho? The body mobilizes glycogen stores in muscle and turns it in to glucose, fueling weight training sessions.

It's not using the glucose from the bread you just ate or the sugar in your pre-workout.

Carbs have their place for sure. But it's a lot more nebulous than that. Eating carbs before a workout doesn't "fuel" the workout, the energy comes from glycogen stores in the muscle and liver (which can be replenished from protein, fat AND carb intake)

  5. What do you recommend prior for someone if they have a 90min soccer match high cardio?

I like working out fasted, but wondering if I should potentially consume something prior to a longer high cardio activity like that.

  6. Is training on an empty stomach really training in a "fasted" state? If you have had carbs the day before, and you wake up and train without eating, does your body actually create FGF-21 in any meaningful amounts? Yes, your stomach is empty and I'm sure your blood glucose levels are lower than after a meal, but do you have to be in actual ketosis after no carbs for several days for this hormone to work and help with lipolysis?

  7. Any advice on workout types most suitable for fasted exercise? I have zero problems doing zone 2 cardio while fasted, but find it a struggle when attempting HIIT in this state (at least, while also in a ketogenic state).

  8. Fabulous myokine info. Thanks for another interesting video. I like to train in both a fasted and non-fasted state each day for their various benefits…well main reason is because I only eat lunch and a few healthy snacks up to 3 or 4 pm which leaves both morning and evening free of food.

  9. Preach it Mr.!

I've always trained in a fasted state and have for many years. I do me, and for me, it works by keeping my body lean-n-mean. Of which is not overly cut like a man but firm like a woman. Is there any other way to do female? It works and if it's not broke, why fix it?

  10. I use to work out fasted now for few months, only having a cup of green tea and a black mocha coffee
After workout I drink a shake of iso protein with water and around two hours later having lunch with meat/fish vegetables and no carbs at all
    It’s working out

  11. Hey Thomas! I always feel that Aha moment after watching your videos, everything just falls into place 😀😀 In the past few days I was thinking what is the reason on some days when I feel so hungry because I didn't eat enough the day before (I do 18 hrs fasting daily) and start my workout then the hunger just disappear and I feel so good afterwards 😊 It's so good to understand more about these mechanisms 🤗
Thank you for sharing your knowledge🙏🙏
    I wish all the best,
    Aniko
