How SlimFast Became A Billion-Dollar Diet Craze Machine

In the late 1980s and very early 1990s, grocery store racks around the US were all of a sudden overflowing with different kinds of dieting drinks and snacks, all appealing uncomplicated weight loss. SlimFast dish substitute trembles, which had actually been pulled from shelves in the 1970s, were re-released in 1984 to become a big component of this ’80s diet regimen beverage pattern. SlimFast’s history, however, goes much deeper than its celeb endorsements and abrupt increase to success.

  1. The problem with slimfast and many other diet shakes is they are 99% soy and vegetable oils. Soy is natural estrogen for men snd very unhealthy, and vegetable oils cause cancers of all kinds in both men and women. If you get a protein shake make sure that it is low in sugar unlike ensure, and that the ingredients are based on either whey or dairy protein isolates.

Do not get anything with soy or vegetable oils. They are literally poison. Take it from a guy who lost 230lb. The only way that works for me was intermittent fasting to shrink my stomach and eliminating sugar, carbs, and any kind of oils. Everything else is BS including the big recent wave of medications we have been seeing.

None of it is healthy and none of it is sustainable. Got to do things the old-fashioned way and be willing to put into work or pray that there is a respawn at the end of life. Good luck everyone. Remember that will power! You control what goes in your mouth, nobody else.

  2. Whoopi certainly hasn't improved any … I think Sister Act was the only time I've been moderately entertained and not repulsed by her.

  3. Mom do you sometimes have that not so fresh feeling oh baby sometimes my cooters is rank as hell

  4. Its so nasty that just the smell of when i open a can of powder or shake makes me so nauseous

  5. I tried it in the early 2000's, I liked some of the flavours (chocolate, vanilla) but not enough of them to be able to stand 2 a day. When I was convinced by a friend to try weightwachers I was able to include the shakes once or twice a week as a treat and that was pretty successful. I was very overweight (nearly 300lbs) but over the course of a year lost 80lbs of that and weightwatchers (and presumably similar diet programs) do actually change your eating habits, so these days I don't actually follow the program but I maintain my weight through habit. I haven't had a slimfast in years, I guess I just got bored of them.

  6. we americans are so pathetic

im a 36 yo man with aging cartilige, stiffness, and pain in every joint and excercise is still far from difficult

yall are just lazy p@ssies making excuse after excuse

  7. I think meal replacement shakes have their place, but not as a weight loss product, rather as a somewhat sane option when you're too tired/busy/lazy for anything other than something quick and easy. Is it better to cook something? Absolubtely. But a meal replacenent shake is still the lesser of 2 evils if it's either that or something like a bag of chips or fast food or not eating at all. I would buy sometjing higher quality than slimfast though. The only way to lose weight and keep it off is eating properly and getting enough excercise. Anything else is just marketing.

  8. I used it when I didn't really need to lose weight, but I kept my weight down so I thought it was working. My husband at the time called it Cancer in a can lol. I haven't used it since the very early 1990s I now need to lose weight and I eat a keto diet. It really works and is much better for you when you actually eat real food.

  9. I drink a protein shake once a day with banana infused almond milk, i eat constantly, and ive lost 65lbs inthe last 4 months. Don't be jealous. I have stage 4 Pancreatic cancer. I also now have type 1 diabetes because of the cancer making my pancreas unable to produce insulin reliably. So hard to find food that won't spike my glucose, is eible, and helps me to maintain my weight. It's a nightmare. I'm holding at 230lbsish.
I'm 6'0" with a large frame(broad shoulders, barrel chest). I could lose another 30 and still be comfortable but I've lost so much muscle mass it's not funny. This is how the disease kills you, my uncle died from it 25 years ago. The end is not pretty. I've gone 6weeks holding between 230-235. I might see my next birthday. Protein shakes have a place in our world, but if you religh on it to curb your weight, do yourself a favor and get an excercise regimen.

  10. My mom drinks an Atkins shake every morning and then eats low carb and calories meals for the rest of the day along with plenty of exercise and she’s been able to keep the weight off. So now that’s what I’ve started doing and I like the Atkins better it’s thicker so it doesn’t feel like chocolate water. Plus it keeps me full longer so I’m less likely to snack!

  11. I still do slim fast but I modify it a bit so I’m not so hungry. Like I’ll add an extra scoop to my almond milk in the morning to sustain me. And I’ll make sure my snacks throughout the day are at minimum 200 calories. I was able to lose 2 pounds in the first week. I was fine with that.

  12. Oh SNAP, Mr. W. History got some ATTITUDE! @ 11:32 "Are you unhappy with who you are?" … I'm still cracking a smile! 🙂
I'm sure I watched this video when it came out, but this is why i rewatch fave videos just like we used to rewatch old movies on cable or til the tape wore out.
